When I playback a large Cubasis 3 project with the Follow Playhead tab enabled everything is normal, but if I expand the bars during playback, the Playhead no longer follows the project even though the Follow tab is still enabled.
Before the latest 3.8.5 update, if the screen was touched during playback, the Follow tab would automatically be disabled. It’s only a small issue but I don’t think this is proper behaviour.

I’ve noticed that at certain circumstances even though the follow playhead is visibly enabled, it doesn’t follow playhead. If I then tap it, it doesn’t change its visibly enabled state, but start following as intended.
I don’t remember which circumstances that triggered that, but will do a screen recording next time I come across it.
I just gave it a few tries and found that if I disable and enable the Follow tab directly after I zoomed in or out during playback it does work, the tab visibility does change from dark to light grey when tapped.
Hi @fixitmania53, Hi @Shoobidoo
When Follow Playhead (FP) is enabled, the view will automatically jump to the playhead’s position when it leaves the screen. If you scroll or zoom the view, FP is temporarily suspended, even though the FP button stays active. To activate FP again, stop and start the playback again, or tap the FP button twice.
Thanks
Lars
Hi Lars,
I was just about to attach a Dropbox link for the FP issue as you requested.
This is the exact same procedure I described in my message above, and as I also explained it is only a small issue.
Thanks.

I’m afraid that’s gonna be tricky. I’ve only come across it a few times since the 3.8.5 update, so it seems to be one of those oddities that only pop up during certain circumstances, and I don’t remember what those were, so I can’t recreate them. But as soon as I happen to come across it, I will document it.
I don’t think Lars requires this clip anymore because his message has changed, but here is my clip anyway.
I am able to reproduce the issue at any time on any project.
The Dropbox link shows a fresh project with one MIDI track which contains 11 bars and demonstrates what happens after zooming in with the FP tab remaining enabled, the second part of the video demonstrates zooming in followed by disabling/ enabling the FP tab.
Hi @LSlowak and @fixitmania53
The issue that I mentioned wasn’t meant to reflect its functionality, but that given certain circumstances the Follow Playhead button shows as activated without following, and then tapping it makes it start following again, without the button itself changing its visible state.
But I only found it to be a cosmetic oddity, not really an issue. Just thought I’d mention it since the topic came up.
But back to the actual topic:
The problem with temporarily suspending FP, is that there are often situations where you want to zoom in or out to get a better overview, yet still want the view to follow the playhead. So then you have to stop and start the song just for that to get going again.
I gather the reason the playhead is no longer followed, is that zooming/scrolling is an expectance that the user is about to edit or have a closer look at something. But when using touchscreens, especially, one is often just moving things around; zooming in and out, just to change the view, not stop and edit.
Although the FP function is greatly improved with 3.8.5, this is still an issue for me, as it frequently forces me to stop and start playback just to get it to follow, for no other reason than that I just scrolled or zoomed in. If I want to edit something, I always stop the song, edit, and then hit play. So the suspend FP feature is redundant for me; I would never edit while the song is playing.
Perhaps there could be an option to have a persistent FP regardless of zooming or scrolling. I suspect users prefer one or the other of these two FP behaviors, so perhaps persistent FP could be a setting in Cubasis preferences.
