Unlink dynamics from a MUS.xml file

Hi, I’m not sure of the terminology so I have to be a bit wordy here.

  1. I imported a friend’s concert band piece using a MUS.xml export from Finale.
  2. He had condensed Trumpet and Horn parts from the beginning (in Finale) which was slowing down the process of cleaning up the inevitable messes from MUS.xml. I used the “Select to end of flow” and then the filters to copy the top line, and then the bottom lines… and copied>pasted into new “player” staves (just with 1 horn apiece in each stave). So far so good. NOW the dynamics.
  3. Using the filters I was able to highlight all the dynamics only, then copy and paste, but it seems that the MUS.xml process strung ALL the dynamics in the flow together as ONE entry. So when I try to adjust the hairpins ALL the dynamic markings to the front AND back moved with it. If I tried deleting just one dynamic ALL the dynamics were erased from the ENTIRE SCORE! Oy!

Is there any way to, for lack of a better term, ‘unlink’ all those dynamics so they can be manipulated individually?

If you select the dynamics, then right click with the mouse, in the contextual menu>Dynamics you can Ungroup (breaking the horizontal grouping) and Unlink (breaking the vertical linking) them:

You can even create a shortcut to Ungroup dynamics. Quite useful.
