Finally moved from Windows 7 to 11 – new computer – and successfully installed Dorico 3.5. I’m using an older MOTU 2408 D/A interface, and am getting good sound playback.
However: every once in a while, immediately after booting up Dorico, I suddenly find that there is no sound – despite the fact that I have perfect sound when playing other sound sources (local recordings, YouTube, etc). The first time this happened, I saw that my MOTU console settings were absent (sound resumed when I re-filled them). This morning, the Device Setup window’s slot for Stereo Output was blank – even though the Asio Driver slot was correctly filled (“MOTU PCI Asio”). The only way that I was able to fix this was to choose an incorrect Asio Driver (“Generic Low Latency ASIO driver”), which somehow ‘shocked’ things in a way that I could then choose the correct Stereo Output option from the scroll-down window, while also inputting the correct ASIO Driver slot info. The next day: Same problem recurred – Stereo Output blank – and this time, it took five attempts to correct it (by choosing “Generic Low Latensy ASIO drive”) before it was finally fixed.
Later, Dorico 3.5 was involved in something else: it turned out that it was preventing my Windows 11 computer from going into Sleep Mode. Closing Dorico fixed that. But closing Dorico also leads to the above “blank Stereo Output” problem, when I re-open Dorico.
Some possible reasons?
I am using Dorico 3.5 on a new Windows 11.
Although it is problem free with all other music and audio sources, the digital audio interface that I am using is an old MOTU 2408 Mk3, that installed flawlessly, even though its newest drivers are from Windows 8.
I had installed Dorico 3.5 with Run as Admin, but later changed that back, because Admin-run apps cannot be pinned to Windows 11 taskbar.
Hi @thinkingMusic.ca , for a start, could you please do from the menu Help > Create Diagnostic Report. That places a zip file on your desktop. Please post that here.
That gives me a first overview and then I can give more advice.
Btw, what other programs do you have that also use your MOTU interface?
Do other programs maybe change the sample rate of the MOTU ? Maybe even lower than 44.1 kHz?
The MOTU handles all the audio in my system, from all sources. Everything that produces music/audio/sound goes through the MOTU, and that includes two video-chat apps that I use for teaching (Zoom and Teams). At this moment, however, the only music app I have installed is Dorico 3.5.
Please let me know if there is any other information that might help.
Thanks for your help, Ulf!
Thanks for the data. At first sight I see a port mapping issue. Dorico connects instead of to the outputs to the inputs. So this is clearly wrong and explains why no sound comes out.
Why and how can this be? I can’t tell you. We have to find out. Will come back again…
Is the difference in the two (Port Setup.xml and the renamed _Port Setup.xml) only in the underline before “Port”, or is there another difference as well?
Then please send me a diagnostic report and I can tell you the absolute path. From the menu please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report which puts a zip file on your desktop. Post that to a reply here. Thanks
But since your problem is gone now, can we rest your case - at least for the moment? If your problem returns, sure we can have a look again, so then please come back here and we’ll pick it up from where it was.
Okay?
