Hello Dorico Community! As of today, I can no longer shorten or lengthen Lines (for example for pizzicati) as usual (engraving mode, Alt plus left or right arrow keys), because Dorico rearranges the staves instead – specifically, the staves get shifted into one another. If I then press Ctrl + Z, it actually gets worse (the staves shift even further into one another) – the only way to get out of this is to close Dorico without saving and restart it. Has anyone else experienced this? What can be done about it? The same thing happens when I try to shorten lines with the mouse (in engraving mode, of course)…
Best is to shorten/lengthen lines in Write mode with alt+shift-arrows and a small grid if needed. Could you share the file?
Jesper
Shorten/Lengthen requires shift+alt+arrows.
@jesele’s advice to do this in Write (rather than Engrave), is good, because changing the length of the pizz line should affect playback. But in Engrave, shortening the line is only cosmetic. It does not change the end attachment point.
Hi Jesper
Thanks - but this shortens the line rhythmically. I need it cosmetically… and no, sorry, can not share the file, copyright etc. …
Then it will be hard to offer any help, I’m afraid.
Jesper
Thanks, Janus - but as said to Jesper: I need it cosmetically, I’m doing the Layout. Sometimes dorico positions Lines too far to the right, too near to the following ‘arco’ for example …

I’ll try that next - I did some things there already with no success- but I have to leave this machine now unfort… thanks so much for these replies.. c u soon

Hi again, Jesper,
I tried it exactly that way—and it works, great! And here’s something strange: After I reproduced the bug I’d found earlier (just to make sure it wasn’t just a fluke yesterday)—now, after making the setting change you recommended—it’s no longer reproducible—I can now change the line lengths in notation mode using Alt and the arrow keys without anything else moving.
Great, thanks for the kindly assistance!
Thom
Good to hear.
Jesper
