Unusual depiction of rest bars

Dorico Pro under Windows 10/11

I have a multi rest bar (2) and want to split it into two individual bar rests so I can add an animato test to the second bar. When I change the multibar option in Layouts to None I get the following result. This has happened to me several times. Sometimes the narrow bar includes a rest and the number one, in this case it is just empty - why and how to correct.

Untick the Ends-voice property. You deleted the rests I guess.

You can use the caret (note input), navigate to the second bar and then Shift-T to enter the Andantino. (cmd/ctrl + arrow move the caret a whole bar.)

Your advice regarding the empty bars and the “end voice” solution helped but did not solve the problem completely. In the following example I have imported an XML file and find that the first two bars for the Vc are empty and I cannot insert the usual rests. This would not appear to be related to the “end voice” function. In my original project file all the Vln bars are also empty (not shown in this abreviated snippet).

@John_McWilliam Select the first note and uncheck Starts Voice
