Unwanted change in note values

In my 6/4 composition, Dorico changes my half note to two tied quarter notes on beat 3, even though I enter a half note on beat 5. How can I keep the half note that I entered?

By default, Dorico interprets 6/4 as 3+3, which is common.

  • If your whole piece is 2+2+2, you might consider 3/2 instead of 6/4
  • If a section of the piece is 2+2+2, you could put in a 3/2 time signature and hide it
  • If you only need this occasionally, then take a look at Force Duration
