Unwanted Rests in Dorico 6

Can anyone help, on Dorico 6 I am attempting to input a double quaver with a rest directly underneath but Dorico insist in inserting a rest after the quaver when one is not needed, also I have an issue with Crochets where I need to place a crotchet on E and D one above the other but Dorico will not let me do this, I can have the E or I can have the D but not both together.
I realy hope someone can help as do like the look and feel of Dorico and do not want to give up on it.

A screenshot would help to show exactly what the problem is.

You can set the “Ends Voice” Property in the bottom panel, in order to prevent any further rests in that voice. Or just use “Remove Rests” in the Edit menu.

I’m sure this is no reason to give up on the app completely!

Sounds like you need to engage Chord mode (Q)?

Hi Janus, and thank you for contacting me, as mentioned the issue is a Rest in the wrong place and Crotchets not being allowed one on top of the other as shown in the screen shots. The top is how it is supposed to look and the bottom is how it comes out in Dorico 6.

Thank you again for any help you can give a complete novice.

Hi @peterjliving,

for the rest issue, you need to transform your first bar in a Pick-up bar: using Insert Mode (Global adjustment of current bar) and deleting the quarter rest, you can do this automatically. Remember to deactivate insert mode when you are done!:

To be able to insert notes one above the other, in the same voice, you need, as suggested by @Janus , to activate the Chord mode (Q):
