Hmm, I get your second image by default.

Try selecting the whole group and doing Beaming > Reset Beaming from the right click menu.

Thank you @asherber That doesn’t work for me.

And you made the 32nds a triplet? I can only get result B if the 32nd notes are not a triplet.

I have “Do not split secondary beams” selected under Notation Options/Beam Grouping. Perhaps there is some other setting involved?

I think there must be.

I too cannot get your B version, [edit] unless I select the group and beam together.

Yeah, this works fine for me. Gif below with my defaults and then as I invoke my Beam Together shortcut.

So, question: what settings does @asherber have that allow this as default?
(secondary beams have always confused me!)

With the notes selected, try the various choices in Properties > Beaming > Split secondary beam. One of those might do what you want.

I tried the same… to no effect.

I get the continuous beams with factory settings.

Maybe it’s time signature dependent? @John_Ruggero What’s your time signature?

Thank you everyone for looking at this. The beam together command does the trick. I think I have run into this before and done precisely that. I just forgot how to do it. It is strange that Dorico seems to making an exception to its own “Do not split secondary beams” for tuplets.

And none of the Split secondary beams options in the Properties Panel work for me. It would be nice if there were an option “Do not split” as one of the options.
