Update cubase 8.5 on a windows 8 pc to cubase 13 on a new windows 11 PC

I am currently using Cubase 8.5 pro on my 9 year old windows 8.1 PC. It has a cubase dongle in the back.

I want to buy a new, more modern windows 11 PC but also update to Cubase 13 pro at the same time, but I am not sure of the best way to go about it?.

Im worried that I cant update Cubase to 13 on the old computer as cubase 13 may not work on windows 8.1

Likewise, I’m worried that if I won’t be able to install cubase 8.5 on the new PC as windows 11 won’t accept it (even though I would plan to update it soon after to 13).

I don’t want to buy a new fresh C13 as the update price is much cheaper, especially while the offer is on. Can anyone suggest the best way of going about this?

Hi and welcome to the forum, Jason.

You can buy the update now and apply it to the license on the dongle. While you get a Cubase 13 license that uses new, dongle-free licensing system, the license on the dongle will also be updated to Cubase 11 – the last one that requires the dongle. This allows you to keep using Cubase 8.5 and all other older versions up to 11.

So even if you update now, you don’t need to install Cubase 13. Just redeem the Download Access Code, continue using Cubase 8.5, and install Cubase 13 on the new computer sometime in the future.

Many thanks Martin
Will do that next week when I’m off work.
Meanwhile, I’ve just ordered my new PC
