Update fm 12.0.0 to 12.0.4 - license is gone

Just updated from Cubase Pro 12.0.0. to 12.0.40. I used the Steinberg Download Assistant for this. Ran Cubase one time, at some point a plugin froze and I had to end Cubase via Windows’ Task Manager.
On next attempt to start Cubase I get the message that

Tried to open Activation Manager but it states “loading, please wait…”. I can only end this task through the Task Manager as well.

Thoughts?

Please make sure that you have Steinberg Activation Manager 1.4.0 installed, and restart your computer.

Seems like a restart was the cure.

BTW - all my crashes/freezes in the past two weeks came through plugins. Would be so nice to have them run in a protected area so that they can be restarted if crashed instead of dragging Cubase (and my license) down, too.
