After updating my copy of Dorico Pro to
Version 5.1.51.2153 (Aug 6 2024)
AudioEngine Version 5.6.41.124,
I started getting this error message whenever I run the launcher. The system then stops until I click “OK,” after which everything seems to start working again.
Is this a known bug? Is anybody else experiencing this? I see a similar problem being reported two years ago, but I’d be amazed if that exact same bug still exists after all this time.
In 2022, somebody recommended uninstalling & reinstalling Dorico as a possible solution to the earlier skinfile problem, but given the fact that I can still use Dorico, and that reinstalling could be a nightmare, given Steinberg’s inexplicably burdensome installation procedures, I’d rather suffer through errors than risk opening a brand-new can of worms – especially one that might not even solve the problem.
Any other suggestions? Is there any way to manually move a “skinfile” into the location where Dorico expects to find it?
Hi @Derrek, you are right in that the skin file is associated with Dorico’s audio engine and not Dorico itself. But it is the Dorico installer which installs both, Dorico and it’s audio engine. So reinstalling Dorico also should help in this case.
But just placing that skin.srf file in the correct folder will also do the job.
Unfortunately yes, it is a known bug that still lingers around. It happens to only very few people and we don’t know the condition under which it does happen. We could never reproduce that bug in-house, nor did we get a recipe from the field for a reproduction. Though we’d love to fix it, we are still not in the position that we could fix it.
