Updates for Finale users

Dear Sirs:
I’d like to know if users who have transferred from Finale to Dorico are entitled to updates. I’ve updated to Dorico 6 but it won’t let me use all the tools.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, @gerzams !

If you crossgraded from Finale to Dorico 5, you’re entitled to the same upgrades that “regular” purchasers are.

Note that the update from v5 costs $99. However, if you first activated your D5 license on or after March 26, 2025, then you’re eligible for a free update to D6. I think you should have gotten an email if that’s the case, but I’m not sure. (I’m just another user, like most people here, not a Steinberg employee.)

Thank you for answer.
What licensing options does Dorico offer?

When you purchase your cross-grade to Dorico Pro, you receive a perpetual license for Dorico Pro that entitles you to use version 5 (including all free maintenance updates for version 5) indefinitely, under the standard terms of the Steinberg End User License Agreement. When a new major version of Dorico Pro is released, you can choose to purchase an upgrade to that version. The price you pay for the upgrade depends on whether your current license is for the previous version or an older version.

Hello - Can you explain a little more what you mean by this please.?

yes, and if you upgrade to the latest version 6 (for 99$) you can use that version, including all the updates indefinitely - on up to three computers, that you might own).

Sirs Puma:
I switched from Finale to Dorico and didn’t understand that the upgrade is limited to technical support and updates for Dorico 5 Pro. To upgrade to Dorico 6, I have to pay.

Yes, that’s correct, unless you did so during the grace period mentioned above.

If you bought the crossgrade since Dorico 6 was released, then you will get Dorico 6.

In fact, the date that you authorised the software is the deciding factor.
