Updates und der Schnee

A silly question (due to the snow in France) :
I’ve noticed that some people have had problems with the 5.1.6 update, and this seems to be happening again with 5.1.7 (total disappearance of the application on the computer ; segment deleted?).

So I wanted to know what method you use to install these updates :

  1. install the new version via Steinberg Download Assistant, which will overwrite the old one ?
  2. discard the old version first and then install the new one (with SDA)?
  3. download the current version (and therefore the update) from the Steinberg site and not via SDA ?
    Thanks for your answers.

I use the Steinberg Download Assistant. Opening it (and waiting for it do its thing for a minute or two), it then offers an Update field at the top of the left panel (right above Applications). I select whatever App appears when I select that field, press the update button, wait for another minute or two while the app is downloaded and installed, and that is all there is to it for me :person_shrugging:

Et donc, ce faisant, j’écrase l’ancienne version sans autre forme de procès en installant Dorico 5.1.7 via SDA ?
Pourquoi SDA me dit-il « installer » et non « mettre à jour » ? (j’ai actuellement la version 5.1.51. Cela vient-il de là ?)

Well. I have to day downloaded 5.1.7 via SDA in order to own a diskimage (handy for reinstalling a previous version in case the update creates problems).

Have I to trash first my 5.1.51 before to install 5.1.7 or is it not necessary ?

You could even keep the old version and install the new version in parallel.
How to do?
Easy like this: Go to the Applications folder an rename the current Dorico5.app to e.g. Dorico5.1.6.app and then run the new installer of version 5.1.7 and that will create a new Dorico5.app but with 5.1.7 inside. That’s it.
And the sound content and shared components stay the same, as well as the preferences.
