Upgrade Cubase Artist 10.5 To Cubase Artist 14

I’ve got a file storage problem that I could use some help with.

Over the past couple of years I put together my perfect system. ThinkPad i7, Windows 11 Pro, 16 GB ram, Cubase Artist 10.5, Halion 7 and other assorted VST programs. This system is only used for music. There are no programs on it except Cubase products and OBS which is used with Cubase. There are, of course, all sorts of Microsoft bloatware. Also, I don’t store much data on this computer. I store most of my Cubase/OBS output on Google Drive.

THE PROBLEM

The file storage is 256 GB SSD drive. But, I only have 34 GB available. I would like to upgrade from Cubase Artist 10.5 to Cubase Artist 14. However, the specs for Cubase Artist 14 indicates that the program requires 80 GB’s free storage space.

So. I’ve got the perfect system for me except this storage problem. It never occurred to me that when I bought the laptop that I would need more than 256 GB’s of storage for a computer that is only used for Cubase music.

Does anybody have any idea how I can solve this problem without buying a new computer. Stated in a different way: is it possible to upgrade to Cubase Artist 14 with only 33 GB’s available?

Replace the C drive with a brand new internal 4tb ssd after backing up the existing C drive to an external, for restore to the new 4tb drive, once in.

If you only want to install Cubase and don’t need the additional content libraries bundled with Cubase, your remaining disk space should be sufficient. Nonetheless I’d also recommend to replace the HDD/SSD with a new one if possible. Maybe an additional external drive could be an option too.

Cubase 14 is around 2 GB in size, you can just install the base program.
It will be installed separately, so if you want to save space you can uninstall 10.5.
Any additional content you have installed will still work.

I would suggest to buy fast, at least 1TB drive and clone the old one to this new. This way you don’t retain your system as it’s now but with more available storage. 256GB is less than minimum today.
Beside I suggest to devloat your Windows with GitHub - Raphire/Win11Debloat: A simple, easy to use PowerShell script to remove pre-installed apps from Windows, disable telemetry, remove Bing from Windows search as well as perform various other changes to declutter and improve your Windows experience. This script works for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Use it carefully to avoid removing something you need but it helped me to make my machines working a bit better.

Thanks for the great responses to my problem with file storage.

I finally just upgraded to Artist 14 and then found that I could pick and choose the components of Artist 14 that I needed for my workflow. And I now have an updated version of my perfect DAW.

So. Thanks from this 77-year-old disabled amateur musician with an obsession for Cubase, Lo-fi and the Hirojashi scale.
