Upgrade from Cubase 6 to 15. Reverb drenched tracks?

I have searched online for an answer to this and tried all the fixes suggested to no avail.

When I load and old song from Cubase 6 in cubase 15 it is drenched in reverb.

Like…unlistenable levels.

I have tried all the fixes like disabling old outdated plugins, changing Control Room setting and all other manner of attempts to no avail.

I know a lot of people will set out theories as to how to solve this but I implore you to only answer this queiry if you have really solved this in your own DAW system specifically.

I appreciate all the attempts people put forth to solve problem but I find that many of them are just theories and that people have never actually had the identical problem.

I would rather wait for an answer that is legit.

Take your time.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum!

May I just give you two little tips how to maximize your chances of getting a “legit” answer as you put it?

  1. Describe your problem in detail. For example is the reverb baked into your audio clips (how did you check) or do you find it on busses // system specs // programs running in the background // plugins involved // VST2?
  2. List the things you already tried to narrow possible causes down.

Without any of this background information chances are low that someone will find the magic answer to your problem out of thin air.

There’s more than a decent chance that zero people have experienced the identical problem you have. So your expectation of what’s possible might be unrealistic.

Have you identified the source of the reverb? That’s likely gonna be key to resolving your problem.

Are you sure it’s reverb you are hearing and not a delayed signal?

Thanks for the suggestions.

It’s actually a pretty straightforward phenomenon.

Drenched…I mean every track and the whole mix is reverb. Like you put a reverb plugin on every track at 100% and the whole mix in prefader mode.

I MEAN REVERB SO THICK YOU CAN BARELY HEAR MUSIC.

It’s impossible to define otherwise really.

You’re only describing the symptoms, which while important is typically insufficient to understand a problem.

Please try to describe the environment which is producing those symptoms.

Have you tried to import the files into a fresh session? That would be my first move in a weird situation like that.

Yes. Even tried just taking some Midi tracks from Superior Drummer and they pulled the problem right along for the ride. Very odd!

Seems like you are not willing to share relevant information. So, it’s basically a guessing game.

Count me out and good luck!

As a renewed attempt to get more contextual infos :

  • System specs (OS, age of your system with basic infos about it, audio interface used, playback device(s) : headphones, monitors…) ?
  • Which Control Room settings have you changed, and for what reasons ? Have you tried to disable it ?
  • ‘outdated plugins’ : which ones ? Have you replaced them and if so, with what ?
  • Did you attempt an export audio mixdown of the whole project and if so, how its playback goes in another media reader ?

Without preliminary answers to these it’s going to be difficult to give you a ‘legit’ one. Additionaly, posting here a short audio excerpt of the project involved could help us to grasp what’s going on, as this kind of issue isn’t common.

There is also a chance that the reverb comes from the audio interface, if your interface offers such a feature.

Seems like you have never actually pulled a track from Cubase 6 and opened it in Cubase 15!

He’s right tho… without knowing what kind of setup you’re working with, nobody is going to be able to help you get back to work on your project and he was honestly trying to help you as is everyone on this post. It’s sounding like a routing issue so that info is pretty important.

New account, repeatedly refusing/avoiding to answer questions, weird claim >>> AI bot?

Hi. Maybe you could make the project a midi only track and start adding effects and so on from that. I don’t have cubase but maybe it could work.

Now that I think about it, it probably is a bad idea

We dont need to. Unless the track itself was BOUNCED and exported with effects on it, the RAW “tracks” going from one version to another should be exactly the same. Effects are not placed on your raw audio or MIDI tracks (how would they even do this with MIDI), they live within Cubase’s mixer, and aren’t applied until playback or an export/mixdown happens.

You mentioned these are MIDI tracks going into Superior Drummer? Then you need to look at Superior Drummer, there is no way MIDI tracks have any sort of effects applied to them. You’ve either got reverb on the Superior Drummer track, or you turned on some internal effect in SD itself.

Looks like another newb who seems to think having an attitude towards people contributing their free time to help him is going to get him far in life..

Why don’t you just rename the project and then proceed to just strip everything back ,delete stuff and unload stuff and see what happens.

Just opened a project from Cubase 6.03 in Cubase 15.
Works as expected.
