Whats the difference between an update and an upgrade?
Is it possible to install an upgrade or update on another computer without installing the previous version beforehand?
Upgrade - Cubase Artist to Cubase Pro
Update - Cubase Pro 10.5 to Cubase Pro 11
This is mostly about what you are licensed to use. Cubase lets you install on multiple machines but you can only run Cubase on 1 computer at a time - specifically the one with the license on it. If it is on a dongle you can readily move from computer to computer. A soft license can also be moved, but not easy enough to do regularly.
When initially installing Cubase on any computer you’ll always need to use the Full Installer.

‘Update’ is for the specific software you own – ‘updating’ the existing software you have installed and own on your computer!
