Hi there: in the process of Upgrading from 8.5 Pro to Cubase 13 to get advantage of the special offer that ends on September 25 th, I will have to change the mother board, processor and memory of the computer in use because in spite of being Win 10, it is an old processor buddy. Not sure if I will be able to find all these pieces until Sep 25 th. I need to use it on a Desk Top and on a Laptop. If a install in my current desktop next week and reinstall in the computer renewed at the end of September, would it be judged as 2 computers?,Please note that Windows “see” these two machines as a same computer. Thanks a lot. F
Hi,
You can deactivate your old desktop, before you put the new mother board and processor in. After you rebuild your PC, you will activate again.
Why? I have Cubase 13 running on an ancient first gen (i7-950) processor. What processor are you using?
Hmmm … not sure how that works . Care to explain?
Also, with the new(ish) Steinberg licensing you can activate the software on three computers dongle free.
Hi Martin:
Thanks for your help.
Did you mean deactivate the software?
Where should I do this?
Thanks very much.
F
I was advised by my long term computer technician that Microsoft will no longer give support to my 2nd generation processor.
Cheers.

Hi,
Start Steinberg Activation Manager, find the license and click Deactivate.
Thanks a lot Martin.
Cheers.

Hi, I’m upgrading to cubase 13 pro as it’s overdue (massive understatement) and the price is right.
I currently run cubase 4, with dongle, on a mac g3 tower which is not connected to the internet.
Ive been reading up on the site on what to do but I must admit it is far from clear to me.
I believe I can also get a further discount by upgrading from cubase 4, on top of the 50% discount?
Can you please run through the main steps to upgrade ?
I need to purchase this week, then i’ll be upgrading my mac to run ver 13.
Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers, Brian.
Also, i cant remember if I registered C4 back then but all my email and other details have changed since then anyway.
I have got a laptop connected to the net so I can purchase ver 13 and activate later - once I know how to get the info I need to upgrade from ver 4. thanks again, brian.
Hi,
You get 50% for the update. Then, as Cubase Pro 13 owner, you can get the other discounts.
you can enjoy exclusive loyalty rebates of up to 70% on the full versions of Cubase Pro 13, Dorico Pro 5, WaveLab Pro 12, and Absolute 6 in the Steinberg Online Shop during the promotion period.
- Buy the correct upgrade.
- Install Steinberg Activation Manager on a computer, which is compatible.
- Plug the USB-eLicneser to the new computer.
- Start Steinberg Activation Manager and enter the Download Access Code.
- Your Cubase 4 license will be replaced by Cubase Pro 11 (moved to new licensing system) license. You can use this license to start Cubase Pro 11 and older (for example your old Cubase 4).
- You will get Cubase Pro 13 license.
You definitely need an access to your MySteinberg account.
Thanks Martin.the upgrade worked fine.
However I can’t open Cubase 4 anymore.
I have read up about elicensers and control centre software versions.
I’m using Mac OS X version 10.4 on this Mac G4 tower , not connected to the internet.
What control centre version will make cubase 4 work now?
It says on Steinberg website the latest version I can download is for Mac OS X 10.8 or 10.9.
There is nothing about a version of control centre for Mac OS X 10.4.
I can’t update my OS X so what can I do to make cubase 4 work again?
Also, there is no cubase 4 license in my account - but you said in your first reply that I should be able to still use cubase 4 after upgrading.
Thanks, Brian.
Hi again, I think I just found something important.
I scrolled down further on the control centre latest versions page and DID find the last version for Mac OS X 10.4.
I will try to use it and see what happens.
With luck I will be able to fix my problem, cheers, Brian.
Hi,
You have to update your license database with the old eLicenset.
The latest eLicenser is not compatible with the old system. The old eLicenser doesn’t know this new license. Therefore you have to update the database.
Yes, it worked - I updated the license database!
I got it working by carefully reading all the info relating to this subject. That, unfortunately, is not something I’m very good at! To work with these machines, you have to think like one of them!!
I replaced the old control centre version with the newest one for Mac OS X 10.4 as found on Steinberg site, THEN had to replace the SynsoPos407C.SLD file - for legacy operating systems- as explained and sure enough - cubase fired up on my Mac g4.
It takes longer to start now-I get the spinning death wheel for about 1 minute, then the light on the dongle flashes, then it starts like it used to.
Happy happy days. Now I can integrate cubase pro 13 when I’m ready to.
Thanks Martin and Steinberg. Good job! Satisfied customer!!
