Hello fellow Cubase users. I am currently using Cubase LE AI Elements 13, which came as a free download when I got my UR 22 Mk II interface. I am considering upgrading to Cubase Artist 14 for a more advanced project I would like to start next year and am just wondering what the best way to do this would be. I don’t think I need Pro. Also it looks like I was able to download AI 14 from the Download Manager but I don’t think this will help me much. Thanks for your time.
First you need to check which edition you really have. If it came together with the UR22 interface it is probably Cubase LE, you can see the edition in the splash screen, that shows up when you start.
Depending on what release it is you can simply buy the upgrade on the Steinberg website, just click on the “Buy Cubase” button, select Cubase 14 Artist and on the following screen make sure you switch to “Updates & Upgrades”.
On the lower end of the next screen you can chose what edition you have and buy the upgrade
Is this what you mean by the splash? Looks like Cubase AI 13. When I look at doing the upgrade to Artist 14 it looks like it will cost me over $400. For some reason I was under the impression that it would cost a lot less than this but I could be wrong. If the upgrade is necessary and worth it I will most likely go for it.
Yes, that is what I meant with splash screen. I don’t know in what country you are, if I chose this upgrade I see 279 Euros.
I live in Canada so that seems about the same after conversion. Have you used any of the Cubase Artist level DAWs? It seems to me that there are way more features included than in the AI versions. I’ve recorded a few demos and basic projects with AI 13 and been happy with the result but as I said I want something more advanced for my next project.
Hi,
you can compare the versions here:
Twer you I’d wait for a sale since you don’t want to update any time soon and you will get the upgrade for probably around 60% of the full price. These sales come up on a regular basis (at least in the past) so it’s worth the wait. If you don’t want to miss any features I would personally suggest to go for the Pro version but that’s up to you and what you want to do, of course.
Okay thanks for the tip. If I did want to get started soon and then upgrade later on when I need to, do you know if the updated version of Cubase can open my projects that I started with the more basic version and just continue where I left off? Seems to me like it should but I’m not sure.
Yes, that’s no problem. Have fun!
Thanks everyone with the help so far. I think I will most likely just bite the bullet and upgrade to Artist 14 at some point, it seems like it is what I am looking for and you definitely get what you pay for.
I am wondering what the conditions for purchasing these programs online are. I would imagine I would get some kind of download code? Can I only install it one time on one machine per purchase or can I do multiple installs, like if I decided to upgrade my computer? Would I have to buy it again or could I use the same copy I purchased?
Hi,
yes, you’ll get a Download Access Code
You can activate Cubase on up to three systems simultaneously and if one of them is no longer in use you can deactivate one of these licenses at any time and activate it on any other computer. It’s quick and easy.
Okay excellent thanks!
