Upgrade to Dorico 5.1 error: Cannot connect with sound engine

Error message with triangle - “cannot connect with sound engine, disconnecting”

. Mac M1, 16g memory, OS 14.2.1(23C71). No sound from Dorico. Other applications play sound. Have twice reinstalled the full set of Steinberg installers.

Sorry about your trouble, but we will get you there, no worries. But first we need a diagnostics report from you. Please follow the instructions in this thread. Thanks

Hi @charlie2 , please reply in this thread here again, not the other one.

And what if you invoke the shell script like this:

sudo /Users/charlesmorrow/Downloads/CreateDoricoDiagnosticsReport.sh

You are then prompted for your password.
Does that yield a diagnostics zip file?

Hi Ulf
That produced a request for password. But that line was locked and would not accept the password.
Any suggestions?

Good news. After total shutdown and resting over night the Dorico 5.1 install worked perfectly with sound, video and video sound.

In case it has not been mentioned, one can easily have a synch audio track by making it mov or mp4.

Charlie2

Hi Charlie2, are you sure about the commandline? When you are prompted for the password, and you type it in, for security reasons, that what you type in does not get displayed. Otherwise someone could easily steal your password. So when requested, type in your password on the keyboard as usual and then the return/enter key to finish off. What does it say then?

Is the path correct? Is the file CreateDoricoDiagnosticsReport.sh still there?
If yes, then do the following command first:

sudo chmod 777 /Users/charlesmorrow/Downloads/CreateDoricoDiagnosticsReport.sh

and then after that the previously mentioned command.

Thanks for your patience. See screenshot and file attached.
I believe there is a conflict between Dorico sound engine and Mac sound engine.
Dorico plays but alas Reaper shows disconnect to sound engine.

Archive.zip (84.3 KB)

So that looked okay, and now run once more the other command, namely

sudo /Users/charlesmorrow/Downloads/CreateDoricoDiagnosticsReport.sh

Then the diagnostics. zip file should get created on your desktop. Please post that here.

Hi @charlie2 , great, finally you succeeded, thanks for the data.
But the log data does not tell me something unusual or an error.
I suppose that you just tried reopened Dorico too quickly or that a zombied audio engine process was still around.
You say that after a reboot now everything works as expected, so let’s rest the case then, but come back here should you get some error or trouble again. Okay?
