Upgrade to Dorico 6, again

Hi Forum;
I’m still preparing for upgrading to Dorico 6, while keeping that and Dorico 5 running on my Mac. (I’ll need 5 for a while to continue working on a large project with other people).
Hopefully these are the last questions I have before the upgrade.

  1. Will I have 2 completely “independent” versions of Dorico after the 6 upgrade?
  2. Will D6 overwrite any of 5’s files? E.g., <Library/Application Support/Steinberg> where I have some very nice hand-coded “doricolib” files from fredGUnn.
  3. Will those lib files work in D6?
  4. D6 will open D5 files but not vice versa. Correct?
    Let me know and it’s off the the upgrade.
    Thanks, Bill
  1. Yes, you can have D5 and D6 installed on the same system. They are independent. Just don’t run them at the same time.
  2. D6 should migrate all the D5 user files automatically. I honestly don’t remember if it migrated the DefaultLibraryAdditions folder or if I did that. Existing project files won’t be touched.
  3. Yes and no. I think most doricolib files still work fine, but changes to the chord symbol editor meant that I had to tweak my chord symbol doricolibs, then use Library Manager / Collections / Music Symbols to correct some D5 files that now open with incorrect positioning.
  4. D5 will open D6 files, you’ll just get the following warning:
  1. Yes
  2. No Edit: Oh, I think @FredGUnn is right that although D6 will make new copies of most files in that folder, you’ll have to copy the DefaultLibraryAdditions folder yourself.
  3. Yes
  4. No. D5 will open D6 files, but you may have unexpected results if you have made use of new D6 features.
