Upgrades to Cubase Elements 12

I purchased Cubase LE AI Elements 12 and I registered the product originally in 2022.

I upgraded my desktop a year ago, and I just added a new Behringer X1222USB board to my mix, and I am having trouble getting the older Cubase Elements 12 to work properly.

The screen pops up as usual, but I am getting no sound or demos, or anything.

I feel like if I upgrade my Cubase program, and do all the drivers and installs, that the problems would be fixed.

What would be a decent upgrade for Cubase LE AI Elements 12? I am still learning about Cubase and recording, so I don’t think I need the pro version.

I use a PC and have Windows 11 operating system.

I would appreciate any advice you could give me. Thank you

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Cubase 12 should generally run on your system. It is just a matter of getting your Mixer to work with it.

The first thing is, if I am correct, that the X1222USB Mixer doesn’t have it’s own ASIO driver, but instead Behringer refer you to ASIO4ALL.

So you need to install ASIO4ALL first: https://de.asio4all.org/downloads/ASIO4ALL_2_16.exe

Did you do that?

Then you need to configure ASIO4ALL to use the X122USB as input and output, then configure that in Cubase as the ASIO device in the Studio Setup. There are tutorials for that out there, like e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJMhLmYq5KA

If you done all that and it still doesn’t work, we need more information, e.g. screenshots of the StudioSetup/AudioSystem page and the Audio Connections (input/output tabs).

Thanks for the information. I hadn’t thought of the board needing a driver upgrade. I will give it a try.

I “updated” my soundboard to the Behringer X1222USB, not realizing it had a built in interface. The new board does not have a MIDI port, so my question is….can I use an external interface (I have a Steinberg UR44C interface) to get the MIDI capability without messing up other features of the board?

You can use the MIDI port of the UR44 inside Cubase, that has nothing to do with ASIO/audio.

I really appreciate your help and advice. So adding the UR44 back into the mix won’t mess up the interface built into the X1222USB board? I was led to believe that I should use the interface in the board, but it definitely has limitations.

You were talking about using the MIDI port before. That is something completely different. You can connect both the X1222 and the UR44 to your computer, but only use the mixer as the audio interface (you can only use one audio interface at a time) but still use the MIDI port of the UR44 interface, which should be visible in the Studio Setup dialog.

Read the Cubase manual for how to set up audio and MIDI devices…

Thank you!
