Upgrading Cubase 11 pro to Cubase 15 pro

Have I done something really stupid here? I’m sure there have been similar issues with other posts so apologies if this has been asked before.

In short. I have been using Cubase since the Atari days. The first version I bought with the USB Dongle was Cubase 6 and I have upgraded on and off ever since - to 8 , 10.5 and finally 11 (Pro). It’s reached the time for me to buy a new laptop powerful enough to work with the latest version so when the new laptop arrived, I decided it was time to buy Cubase 15 Pro. So I bought the upgrade. I think you can guess the question I’m about to ask…

I don’t seem to be able to register the upgrade to 15. I’ve tried various things with Download managers, Activation Centres and even old eLicenser control centres. I don’t know if I actually registered my previous licenses with MySteinberg (mostly as the current machine I’ve been running Cubase 11 Pro on wasn’t usually connected to the internet.)

I am worried that I may not be able to activate my shiny new upgrade due to missing something I was supposed to do by May 2025 ? So my question is… any suggestions as to how to activate Cubase 15 on the brand new clean laptop or if worst come to worst - is there some way of changing my upgrade purchase (€249) for the full version of Cubase 15 Pro. (Obviously I would not be at all happy to lose the money I’ve just paid for my 6th of 7th upgraded version of Cubase). Any advice or help would be gratefully received. Have a lovely day / evening wherever you are.

You need to have your eLicenser registered with your Steinberg account (the same that you used for 15) in order to be able to use the upgrade. this can still be done now:

I admit that I don’t know the full process on how to go further, but i am sure there are some more articles in the help center, or more knowledgeable people here will chime in…

  1. You have your dongle with the cubase 11 license on it. When inserted into a computer running the elicenser dongle driver, you can navigate to see/write down the dongle (itself) identifying serial numbers. Mine are a long string of numbers (I own 2 dongles)
  2. You exit everything….visit steinberg dot net, log into your account, click “products” to see what you’ve bought as software. ver 15 is there (maybe not activated yet)….but is there..right? Since you did indeed buy it.
  3. Click “licensed devices” to see hardware…which shows registered computers for new licensing system…..and….registered dongles for old licensing.
  4. Is your elicenser dongle shown? (long number). If not…click the big, red “register elicenser” at the top right of the screen…enter the long serial number you wrote down from step 1.
  5. If successful, “licensed devices” (long number) also shows the license(s) on the registered dongle. In your case cb11. Click on the long number (serial) to see it shows cb11.
  6. Go back to your account area “products” list. Click on the new ver 15 (it is there right?….since you say you did buy it and began an install (which you have to do first….install).
  7. Exit the Steinberg dot net website and go install ver 15 (or have you already?) Don’t do step 7 till you’re sure you’ve installed ver 15.
  8. Go back in to your Steinberg dot net personal account, products, highlight ver 15..Click “activate”. Although…you may be led there from your first installed setup anyway. That should do it.
