Hi folks. I’m making a long-overdue step to a newer version of Cubase. I just wanted to check ahead of time whether I’ll be able to open projects from Essential 5 in the latest version? If not, will my operating system (Windows) keep both versions of the software simultaneously? I’m very concerned about decades of material being rendered unusable or inaccessible, and my workflow being totally destroyed. Advice very much appreciated!

You shouldn’t have any issues. But be prepared for some big changes in the GUI - 15 years of updates!
You can have multiple version of Cubase installed - I have from 9.5 to 14.
Two caveats:
There was a major change in the way scores are handled in V14. Scores previous to this won’t open properly, if at all.
And, obviously, if plugins are missing, well, they won’t load and Cubase will complain. But the project will still load.
Just curious … which version of Windows are you using?
Some plugins might have been discontinued or replaced.
You should be able to keep your existing version and install the latest version in parallel to it.
