Upon launching Dorico notification appears no valid license detected for HALion 6

Hello all,
I just updated Dorico 4 Elements to 4.3.30 and when I launched the app, I keep getting a notification that says (“no valid license detected for HALian 6, please connect your elicenser and click retry. Click cancel to stop loading the plug-in. Make sure to have an up-to-date version of the license control center.“)

I never had this problem before. I have used HALion with Dorico ever since I purchased the software.

I have no HALion sounds in Dorico right now. I updated the elicenser, I did maintenance, I restarted my computer, and still it does not work. Does anyone know what I can do to solve this problem?

Thank you

Rich

Hi @rrgilley ,
can you still open Dorico and get to the Dorico Preferences dialog?
If so, then in that dialog go to the Play tab. The second option in there is the Default HALion plug-in. What is it set to with you? Is it set to Use preferred and Preferred HALion plug-in to HALion 6? What if you choose Use best available?

It might be that rather than setting it to Use best available you should set it explicitly to either HALion Sonic SE or HALion Sonic, depending on which of those two plug-ins you have installed. Dorico will try to use “big” HALion if it’s installed and passes the plug-in check, but if you don’t actually have a license for it, then you’ll get this problem, so in that case, setting the preferred HALion plug-in to whichever of the free versions you have installed is the right thing to do.

OK, I will try both of these possible solutions and see if they work. I will get back to you. Thank you so much.

It was set to use best available already. HSSE (Elements) The preferred HALion plug-in simply says HALion. Maybe I should try the other option which is HALion Sonic?

It is only giving me two choices. Either HALion, or HALion Sonic. I tried the second option sonic version to see if that would work, but I get the same pop up. I can’t get any of the HALion sounds. When I was updating, I also updated my electric bass plug-in, T Guitar plug- in, and a HALion symphonic Orchestra update. As these were downloading, I received notifications that the files failed to move to the correct place so I located the folders and took the sound updates from those folders in manually put them into what I thought were the correct folders. Could that have had any kind of affect and if so, how can I reset this debacle?

I just discovered something. When I Open an older file that I created before the update I can get the HALion sounds but when I create a brand new project I cannot get the sounds and the pop-up comes up. Why?

Have you installed HALion Sonic 7? It appears as a choice in SDA when you select “Dorico Elements 4”. If you install that, then in the Play page of Preferences set Default HALion plug-in to Use preferred and set Preferred HALion plug-in to HALion Sonic, that should make sure that Dorico loads HS7 and not full HALion 6 for future projects. For existing projects that use one of Dorico’s default playback templates, you can use Play > Playback Template to re-apply the default playback template, which should then load HS7 as well.

If you’re still having problems after you’ve properly switched to using HS7, let me know.

OK, I will try this right now and see if it works.

Eureka it worked! I am so appreciative of your help, and the solution! Thank you so incredibly much!
