I just received a replacement UR-44. The first one had a couple of bad mic pres.
On this newer one, when I turn it on, I hear a pop noise from my right speaker (it is a powered monitor).
When I turn it off, I hear a pop noise but not as louder coming from both speakers.
It is not loud.
I emailed support to ask them if the unit should be returned.
My UR44 does the same thing even when the master volume has been turned down to zero. I too use active monitors (Alesis M1 Mk2’s) and the power switch and volume controls aren’t easily accessible being on the rear of the units.
I assumed it was part of the design (the lack of soft power off) but it would be interesting to see if other users have this issue.
Cheers
Stevo…
Thanks Stevo. Because my first UR-44 did not pop, I am not sure what to think of it. I will share what support has to say on this thread.

May 1, 2014 Update: Steinberg said the on/off button pops are normal. That is why they ask that the monitors are turned on after pressing on and then turned off before pressing off.
Guess I will just have to live with the popping then…
Thanks for the reply and update Rimshot.
I get the same pop. I’ m now turning monitors on last and off first.
