UR22 mkII dropouts driving me insane

Regardless of the CPU load or samplerate I get seemingly random audio dropouts while recording. They occur for 1-2 seconds and sound like a sudden extreme bit reduction. Listen for yourself: SoundCloud - Hear the world’s sounds

I went through every process I could find online to fix this problem but it still persists.

  • Disabled WIFI
  • Uninstalled the yamaha driver
  • Tried other cables and ports
  • Gave external power
  • Send it back to steinberg for a “fix”

It still persists. It persisted on my 2012 Macbook Air and now on my 2015 Macbook Pro - pretty much ruining the fun in making music for me. :frowning:

In Ableton 10 I’m using the ur22 mkII for Input but the Audio Output is handled by the onboard output of the Macbook.

Try raising the buffer size…

This was the first thing I tried, this even happens with 2048 - at completely random times.

CPU load says nothing either. Happens at 5% and 50%.

I also tried Cubase, Ableton, Bitwig, Audacity - no difference.

What happens if you use the UR for input and output? Using two different audio devices and drivers seems like asking for problems.

Thank you so much, that seems to solve it. No dropouts at all.

But since Ableton allows for such settings - isn’t this still considered a bug on steinbergs or apples side?

For me it’s way more convient to route the audio out through the inbuilt device
