UR22C as monitor controller?

I’m looking for something to simply adjust the volume of my studio monitors and also somewhere to connect my headphones to,

I’m not a musician (yet), so I won’t really use the analog inputs much (although I might end up connecting a better microphone). Sound would therefore primarily come from my Mac.
I want to be able to play audio through both monitors and headphones simultaneously and control the volume of each separately.

  1. Would this work?
  2. Can I use it as system output?
  3. Does it work without the proprietary driver? (Sometimes we connect MDM’d computers that may not have permissions.)

I know UR22C is overkill for my needs, but when I can get a slightly used one for the price of a Native Instruments Komplete Audio 1 it’s tempting… or idiotic? What are your opinions?
