USB-eLicenser registration fails when trying to update to Cubase Pro 15

Hi everyone,

I’m having trouble registering my old Cubase Pro license to my MySteinberg account, and I’m hoping someone here might have a solution.

I recently purchased an update from Cubase Pro 10.5 to Cubase Pro 15. However, I can’t proceed with the update because my existing license on the USB-eLicenser won’t register to my account. When I try to enter the eLicenser key manually in the “Register eLicenser” section, it fails/won’t accept it.

Here are a few details:

  • Current Version: Cubase Pro 10.5 (on USB-eLicenser)

  • Target Version: Cubase Pro 15

  • Issue: USB-eLicenser/License cannot be registered to MySteinberg account.

  • I’ve already tried all standard troubleshooting steps suggested by the support guide (updating eLicenser Control Center, running maintenance tasks, launching as administrator, etc.), but nothing works.

  • I contacted Steinberg Support several days ago, but haven’t received a response yet.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or found a workaround for this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum.

What is the error message you get,

That will not work at all anymore, since the eLicenser server is shutdown since last year.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Here is what I’m experiencing:

  1. When I try online registration in the eLicenser Control Center (“Register All eLicensers at MySteinberg”), I get Error 1001 with the following message:
“A problem occurred which prevented the information from being transmitted. Please make sure that your computer has access to the internet and try online registration again later, or contact your software vendor’s support team in case the error persists. Error code: 1001”
(My internet connection is completely fine.)

  2. When I manually enter the USB-eLicenser serial number under “Licensed Devices” on my MySteinberg account page, it says “Registration successful!”, but my Cubase Pro 10.5 license still does not show up under my registered products.

Since the eLicenser server has been shut down, how can I get my Cubase Pro 10.5 license verified or linked to my account so I can activate my Cubase Pro 15 upgrade? Is contacting Steinberg Support the only way left?

That does not work anymore, as already said, the eLicenser server is shutdown.

This only registers the eLicenser, not the Cubase license. The eLicenser should be enough to activate the license update. Did that work and can you see your eLicenser now in your online profile?

If the eLicenser is visible in your profile you should start the Download Assistant, click on the button in the upper left corner and enter your Download Access Code. This should now register your new license.

After that start the Activation Manager and activate the license.

Thanks for the reply. However, even though it said “Registration successful!”, the USB-eLicenser itself does not show up in my MySteinberg profile either. What should I do in this case?

The eLicenser should show up under Licensed Devices, so you say it is not visible there?

Have you tried to redeem your Download Access Code?

Go on My Steinberg - click Licensed Devices there must be a bunch of numbers and letters next to the eLicenser icon. You should find your last Cubase there (I suppose Cubase 10 pro if that was the last version you have purchased before the version 12.
If you find that version in the list you’re fine. Just install SDA, run it and make the access to your account, fill the download acces code and you’re done. Remember to activate it with the SAM before opening Cubase the first time.

Thanks.

I checked my “Licensed Devices” page again, but my USB-eLicenser is definitely NOT listed there.

The keys shown on my page are all Soft-eLicensers, whereas my Cubase Pro 10.5 license resides on a physical USB-eLicenser (Number:).

When I try to register this USB-eLicenser number manually on the MySteinberg page, it doesn’t add it to the list. And because it’s not linked to my account, redeeming the Download Access Code in SDA fails.

Since the eLicenser servers are closed and manual USB registration on the web isn’t working for this key, is contacting Steinberg Support the only way to get this manually assigned by an admin?

Thanks.

I would suggest you to blur the numbers on the eLicenser, as bad actors could reinstate your licenses using those numbers.

If you used a different email to purchase the update that may be the issue…your pictures show that your e-Licenser is registered and so is your Cubase Pro 10.5.

@Cookie_Jarvis Oh, you might be right! I realized that I used a different email address when I purchased the Cubase Pro 15 update.

Since my Cubase 10.5 license is on this current account and the update was bought with another email, how can I transfer or apply the update code to this account? Should I ask Steinberg Support to merge or transfer the purchase?

@BrunoDSL Thanks for the heads-up! I’ve removed the serial numbers to keep them safe.

If you don’t own any other product, you might use that account (where the e-Licenser is registered and so is your Cubase Pro 10.5) from now on. The download access code you’ve got when purchasing, should activate the update using that account. I mean: is not the mail concerning the validation but the DAC and SAM through the account. An account showing you own Cubase 10.5 gives the rights for the update.
