Using a cc controller to modify an instrument track AFTER recording something

I use Cubase 13 Pro in Windows and a Roland DS88 keyboard as controller.
Ok, so I set up an instrument track with EW opus using solo cello. I figured out how to assign one of the faders on my Roland keyboard to a cc function using Quick Learn. So I can use the fader on my keyboard to alter the assigned function WHILE recording a track. However, I often want to alter a cc function like expression or dynamics on an instrument track that has already been recorded. I know I can do this by creating a cc lane and drawing it in. But what I want to do is play back and listen to the recorded track and alter the cc function in real time using an assigned fader on my keyboard. I’m thinking this must be possible, But I can’t figure out how to do it. So first of all, is is possible? And second, if it is, can you please point out the process for me.
Thanks.

Hi,

Yes, it’s possible.

  • In the Preferejces > Record > MIDI > Replace Record in Editor set to Controller.
  • Open the Key Editor
  • Make sure, Record in Editor is enabled.
  • Start recording (you must not click on the Record on the Transposrt Panel, this would switch focus to the Project window, but the docus has to be in the Editor; so start recorrding via Key Command or from a Remote Device).
  • Move the faders to send the MIDI CC data.

=> Only the Controllers are going to be replaced, thanks to the preferences, you set above.

Hi @Martin.Jirsak, I came back working in Cubase for some projects, after some intensive months in Dorico.

I use Record in Editor, to re-record my CC1 from Mod-wheel of my keyboard. It used to work fine some time ago. Now my issue is that, while recording, the CC seems to keep skipping to the previous recording as if it would be a conflict and it doesn’t rewrite the old CC on the fly, so the sound stutters as if the track is becoming multiple conflicting information. The settings for Midi recording on the lower left panel are set to Replace. Any idea of what I can check? As I said I wa successfully using this method, but now I have the described issue.

Here a video demonstration of the issue:

EDIT: never mind: I restarted Cubase, and now it works as expected  Here a video of the correct functioning:

Hi,

This is another topic. To achieve this, you have to switch the mode from Ramp to Step.
