Using a DAC with Cubase on Windows 10

Cubase Pro 13 on Windows 10 with a MOTU M4.

If I wanted to use a separate DAC, like the budget Topping DX1, I would have to choose its driver in Studio Setup when using it, correct? It looks like neither the M4 nor the DX1 are capable of sharing a clock. So I can’t use both devices at the same time.

Looking for confirmation of my understanding or any helpful info from anyone with the same or similar setup.

Side note: It looks like the volume knob on the DX1 is for the headphone outputs only. I’d need a separate monitor controller for my speakers (or use the Control Room volume). My primary mix monitoring is through Slate VSX though.

Cubase can only work with 1 ASIO soundcard/driver at a time so 2 ASIO devices can’t be done ATM.

Cubase doesn’t allow this for good reasons (mainly sync) you can however use the asio4all driver, which will allow you to do this and appear as a single device in Cubase.
