I am trying to “trick” the Cantai plug-in into pronouncing text as Latin. As far as I can tell, Cantai’s Latin pronunciation is based on Italianate ecclesiastical Latin. This is not ideal for my purposes, but it is still much closer to what I need than English pronunciation.
The actual text in the score is in Estonian, but Cantai appears to assume English by default. Since the opening bars of my piece are empty, I tried entering some notes for each vocal line in a low register, with the text “glo-ri-a” underneath. At first, Cantai did indeed seem to switch to a more Latin-like pronunciation, but after a while it reverted to English pronunciation again.
I then wondered whether “gloria” might be a poor choice, since it could conceivably be recognised by Cantai as, or at least associated with, an English word. I replaced it with “pa-ter nos-ter”, and so far this appears to work.
My questions are as follows:
How can I make this initial phrase both inaudible and invisible?
The dynamics are already set to the minimum, but something can still be heard. If I use Suppress Playback, Cantai seems to ignore the phrase altogether and falls back to English pronunciation. I also tried using fader automation via CC7, but for some reason that does not seem to work either.
Has anyone found a reliable way of setting the pronunciation context for Cantai without the “dummy” text being either visible in the score or audible in playback?
