Using the arrow key to advance the cursor through rests is not particularly efficient in terms of work flow. It occurred to me that using my keyboard pedal to execute a forward-right movement of the cursor address this. The thing about the pedal is that it would have to incorporate the up AND down motion of the pedal to trigger this. Any thoughts on how to do this.
Welcome to the forum @James_Wright!
Have you actually tried assigning this pedal to this function? It would be worth experimenting:
Just search for the term (there will be one but I donāt know what it would be called). Iām not sure how using the pedal (MIDI CC 64) would affect other functions.
There is a key combination to move to the right one whole bar (measure) at a time. On a Mac it is cmd+right arrow. On Windows the modifier key is probably ctrl instead of cmd.
You can also advance the caret by the currently selected duration with the space bar. I do this all the time to āenterā rests. Need a quarter rest? 6Space
I just want to move by the amount set by the grid, usually just an eighth note.
There is also an option for this somewhere. Search for āadvance caretāā¦ or something like this, and the options should be filtered.
PS let me know how you go! It might be fun to trial.
Hello, I tried it with other key commands but I ran into an issue with the up/down nature of a pedal tap. Also, the arrow keys seem to be different from a standard key command which I canāt seem to wrap my head around.
Fair enough. There may very well be a way around this but Iām not sure what it is.
You were right, it is āadvance caretā Okay, got it working by assigning it to the lowest note on my midi keyboard. One issue resolved , now I just have to experiment and get it to recognize a pedal press. Thank you. Iāll let you know how I do.
Keyboard Maestro might get you what you want.
