Hello ~ I want to purchase a drum pad unit, MPC Studio or Maschine Mikro (I only want the smallest units I can find, even if they have been superseded somewhat), and I’m not really interested in the software (only the drum sounds that come with them, as we have Nuendo now). Can a unit like these be used in Nuendo to trigger other software? I don’t want to have to necessarily run MPC software inside Nuendo; I’m just seeing how many options/limitations I would have with these. I do have some NI software already and so wanted to expand to another developers range of samples to draw upon also. In short, can they be used as hardware only to trigger Nuendo’s Beat Maker software for example? I really only need a physical unit per se to trigger other software.

Yes, you can use it with other VSTs. With MIDI Remote in Nuendo, you can also modify the functionality
Fair warning, Maschine Mikro Mk3 won’t even power up unless the Maschine 2 plugin is loaded in the DAW (or Standalone). If you’re going for the small footprint Maschine Mikro I’d make sure to do my homework.
