Using Cubase 5 after 10 years. Help with drum editor, recording issues, etc.

It’s been about a week and a half and I’m having some issues.

  1. How do I make it so when I open a midi part it automatically chooses the drum editor? I’ve read the manual and it says stuff about the drum map but I can’t find the screen that it shows in the manual. 1 track I have does it automatically, but one doesn’t. I have to use a key command after the midi editor opens.

  2. Out of nowhere the playhead won’t move forward after I hit record. I have the precount set up and I used to be able to hit record and it would play 2 bars before the loop then start recording. Now the record button turns red but it won’t actually record unless I hit spacebar. I’m guessing I messed with something but can’t figure it out.

  3. What’s the best upgrade path to get the newest version? I have Cubase 5, but also other Daws like studio one 4, Ableton Live 8, Reason 9. Can you combine the upgrade discount with a crossgrade discount?
