Using Cubasis to play the sounds of a different synth

Hi Lars,
It’s been a while! I’ve been busy but now looking forward to using Cubasis 3. I was really hoping that the CC program change would have been sorted in the new version but it seems now to be actually unusable. I read a post (there are several trying to solve this program change problem) where you recommended a video that a user made for Cubasis 2. I have been using that technique but it’s so fiddly.
The method of dragging up to get to a certain value only seems to work intermittently with either the apple pen or finger. Mostly it simply doesn’t work. Please see the attached screenshot; it’s a bit of a mess. Now I get lots of cross hairs and even when I make a swipe and get a blue rectangle to a random value (the only thing that seems to activate this) that value only remains for a single bar rather than for the whole piece. Would I need to set it for each of say 120 bars? With this technique it would take several months.
In short, I am trying to use program change to trigger a specific voice in an external synth. It seems such a basic requirement. Can you help me out of my frustration.
Thanks
Steve

Hi @YJS,

Thanks for your message.

These are the steps to easily create and edit MIDI CCs in the editor:

  • Set the grid to a desired value
  • Tap the DRAW button and create a few MIDI CC points
  • Disable DRAW and tap somewhere in the editor to make the MIDI CC points appear black
  • Tap on a MIDI CC point to select it (its color changes to white) and move it to a desired value

Attached please find a short clip that visualizes the steps:

Hope that helps!

Best wishes,
Lars

Yes, that’s really helpful and thanks for getting back so quickly, Lars.
I found that I only needed a single point to make the change and, as you said, it was easy.
There’s just one more thing (always!). I’m not sure how to activate the MSB and LSB settings. Without them I’m missing a lot of sounds as they require these as well as the program change number.
Do these relate to a specific CC by any chance or is there another way to alter these settings?
Thanks again
Steve

I found the answer in the forum.
MSB = 00
LSB = 32

Hi YJS,

As stated in our help, the following parameters are available:

  • Velocity
  • Pitch bend
  • Aftertouch
  • Program change
  • CC 64 Sustain
  • CC 0 Bank select
  • CC 1 Modulation
  • CC 2 Breath
  • CC 3 - 6
  • CC 7 Volume
  • CC 8 Balance
  • CC 9
  • CC 10 Pan
  • CC 11 Expression
  • CC 12 - 119
  • CC 120 All sound off
  • CC 121 Reset controls
  • CC 122 Local controll
  • CC 123 All notes off

“CC 0” should be the parameter of choice to create bank changes.

Hope that helps!

Best,
Lars
