I"ve searched high & low but I can’t find any help for adding Finale’s SMuFL Maestro font to Dorico.
Here’s the only fonts available in my Dorico.
Any help?
Bill
It looks like some of the required SMuFL metadata is missing on your system. Can you try running the Dorico 5.1.70 installer again?
I’ll try.
New to Doric; (late August).
I just updated to the latest version via the “Download Assistant.” Took quite a bit of logging in, downloading latest Download Assistant.
Is the Download Assistant the “Dorico 5.1.70 installer”?
Let me know,
Thanks, Bill
No, not exactly. First, quit Dorico so that it’s not running. Once you have Steinberg Download Assistant running, on the left-hand side under My Product Downloads choose Dorico Pro 5. On the right-hand side you will then see Dorico 5.1.70 Application Installer with an Install button to the right of it. Click that, and wait for the application to be downloaded and installed. Once the progress bar is green and shows a tick, run Dorico again, and you should find that you can choose Finale Maestro as music font.
OK, I’ll try this and let you know.
I really appreciate the info. After using Finale since 1986 it’s a bit embarrassing to be such a neophyte again.
I have learned quite a lof of Dorico lately; jury’s out re Finale vs Dorico but overall D seems to do what’s needed for the most part.
I’ll let you know.
Thanks, Bill
Please don’t feel embarrassed. We’re here to help, so please ask whenever you need assistance.
I followed your directions, reinstalled Dorico (presumably).
The Font List did not change.
???
Let me know,
Thanks, Bill
Maybe try the font installer here:

Tried it, but the Music Fonts library is still the same (see attached).
Thanks anyway for the attempt.
Pretty frustrating so far.

Do the fonts show as listed in Font Book? (Make sure you’re looking at the “All” category.)
I use Connect Fonts (Extensis) not Font Book. It appears that Finale Maestro is open (see attached).
I did a search for the SMuFL folder: it’s not on my Mac. Is that part of the problem?
Let me know,
Thanks, Bill
My suggestion is to delete all duplicate (legacy) TrueType fonts, the OpenType -TT ones.
On a Mac the SMuFL folder containing the metadata is in /Library/Application Support/SMuFL
(the Library on the top level of the startup volume).
OK, I’ll start that process tomorrow.
I did see the SMuFL folder; it was at the top level, not User.
A miracle: I closed Dorico, made sure Finale Maestro was active, reopened Dorico and Finale showed up in the Music Fonts.
1,000,000 for all the help.
Bill
You’re not seeing Finale Jazz, or any of the other Finale music fonts though.
I hadn’t activated them yet through my ConnectFonts manager. I seldom use those other fonts, but they’re there now if I need them.
Thanks, Bill
@wmbrink : Good to see someone who was using Finale longer than I was (I think I started around 1991!). Sticking with Dorico; while I also feel like a neophyte, I’m finding a plethora of things in Dorico that would have made my life easier had I switched a few years ago. Most things are better; some require some effort to adjust to, but it’s well worth it. I would suggest you keep persisting as I am.
Yep; been a long time Finale user. I met with Phil Farrand at a NAM show in ±1985 and talked to him about Finale’s potential as educational software. (I was at Berklee at the time; they sent me there).
Dorico: I’m finding it somewhat arcane at times: vertical & horizontal spacing control (or the lack thereof), now struggling with chord symbol editing.
Gotta keep going though: Apple softwre updates will at some point will make Finale unusable on Macs. Thanks for the encouragement.
