I would like to use two SMuFL symbols as lyrics. The symbols are:
-
U+E5E7 //
-
U+E5EF //
When I insert them into the lyrics, a very large space appears above them. Is there a way to remove or reduce this spacing?

I only get a small change. But can compensate with baseline shift. I used Edit Single Lyric and Music Text. Wouldn’t Playing Techniques with Glyphs be easier?

Are you using “Bravura”, or “Bravura Text”? The latter is designed to minimize the large bounding box required in the notation font (in order to use it alongside Text).
I wasn’t aware of this option. Thank you very much, although it’s not quite enough for my case. The issue is that I want to place two lines of text, but they end up being too widely spaced or create unwanted gaps, so I have to adjust everything manually.
I’m using “Vintage” as the font, and I didn’t know that “Bravura Text” was specifically designed for this—good to know as well.
I think the most logical solution, as you mentioned, would be to use a custom set of playing techniques and create some that include both options:
o o ø ø o ø
o ø o ø
Or I’ll see if it’s more convenient to work with two lines of playing techniques.
That way I’ll save myself a lot of trouble.
Thanks for all the information! It’s been very helpful.
