Using the Tempo button in the right side toolbar has no effect

Mac OS, Write Mode.

I’ve tried several times to set my tempo (change) using the Tempo button in the toolbar - even experimenting with drastically different tempos. No change.

The tempo setting in the top header remains the same when I make these changes. It seems this should change with each new tempo in the music, but is doesn’t.

Note: I DID previously use the “Double Note Duration” feature and changed the meter from 4/4 to 2/2. I don’t think that should make a difference but including here in case it does.

I’d appreciate any help,

Rick

As a quick check, you are in Note input in the measure you want to have the tempo change [1] (showing the orange insertion cursor line), then set the tempo [2] then click Create [3]

This is what you are doing?

Are you maybe in fixed tempo mode?
Here, @asherber explains the difference between fixed mode and follow mode:

Generally, it’s best to leave the tempo in the transport controls alone, and set the tempo with a tempo mark in the score.

Only mess with the tempo indicator if you want to ignore tempo marks in the score and play at a fixed tempo, e.g. for aurally ‘proofing’ a work.

Thank you Arco, Charles, and benwiggy for your replies.

Arco, no, I was not in Note mode. Whenever that orange cursor note appeared, I thought it was wanting me to enter notes (as I normally do). Your solution solved it for me. Thanks so much.

Charles, I am not apparently in Fixed Mode as my tool bar has the up/down arrows in it. But, that information is quite informative and will save me in the future and for when I actually DO want it to behave that way. Thank you.

Benwiggy, this is good to know. Thank you.
