First, I really like the UR816C interface.
Second… this is in SPITE of the constant head-scratching involved in trying to get Control Room to cooperate with the routing of the internal RevX reverbs and such.
Short version - I completely abandoned control room.
BUT:
Using the Behringer P16 monitoring system, here is how I did it, using Cubase Pro 14, allowing each performer to adjust their own mixes, including their own FX level.
My setup:
For a full band setup:
UA 4-710D - all 8 inputs go direct to ADAT out and into ADAT inputs 1-8 on the Behringer.
UR816C
- inputs 5-6 go to ADAT out 1+2 (to ADAT in on P16 - Ch 9-10)
- inputs 7-8 go to ADAT out 3+4 (to ADAT in on P16 - Ch 11-12)
- FX bus goes to Mix 4 (to ADAT in on P16 - Ch 13-14)
- Click and Talkback go to Mix 2 (to ADAT in on P16 - Ch 15-16)
Note: Click goes to a mono output routed to Mix 2 L and Talkback goes to a mono output routed to Mix 2 R
This allows each performer to adjust up to 12 individual mic levels, along with click, talkback and FX separately.
For Overdubs:
UA 4-710D - all 8 inputs go direct to ADAT out and into ADAT inputs 1-8 on the Behringer.
UR816C
- FX bus goes to Mix 4 (to ADAT in on P16 - Ch 11-12)
- Click and Talkback go to Mix 2 (to ADAT in on P16 - Ch 9-10)
- backing music goes to Mix 3 (to ADAT in on P16 - Ch 13-14)
Note:
Note 1: Click goes to a mono output routed to Mix 2 L and Talkback goes to a mono output routed to Mix 2 R
Note 2: You can enable “summing mode” in Direct Routing in Cubase and send all accompaniment tracks to Mix 3 WHILE listening to Mix 1 in your monitors to hear everything. The performer can adjust their vocal / FX levels independently in the P16.
It’s a bit clunky and cumbersome, but it works well.
I hope it helps someone down the road.
