Hi - I know it can be helpful when dithering down to a smaller bit rate (like 32 bit to 16 for a CD), but I don’t know how that applies to .mp3 files. Anyone know a definitive answer?
Earlier posts seem to have left it open ended Computer für Audioanwendungen - WaveLab - Steinberg Forums … foolomon, if you’re reading, did you do your sine wave testing?
Thanks!

The general consensus is that MP3 being a complex lossy process, dither is probably not required.
Oh, Bit depth not Bit rate

OK, thanks guys. So consensus is … only consensus, no “white papers”, etc., eh.
I’ve looked around enough to know, that … it’s not easy to find an clear answer!

Yup, afaik that’s correct. But the consensus is from a lot of experienced engineers…
