Hi everyone,
I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this – maybe it touches more than just Dorico – but I figured I’d start here since it’s something that comes up during the Dorico installation process.
Right now, when installing Dorico, several additional applications and background tools are required: the Steinberg Download Assistant, Activation Manager, Library Manager, MediaBay, plus instruments like HALion Sonic and Groove Agent. While I understand the reasons behind each of these components, from a user’s perspective it can feel a bit fragmented and overwhelming – especially for new users or those who only want to get started quickly.
Wouldn’t it be helpful if these essential service apps were bundled into a single, unified utility? Something that handles licensing, downloading/installing software and content, and managing libraries – all in one place.
There are a few potential benefits I see:
• Simplified user experience – one place to go for everything
• Less confusion around what each tool does
• Faster setup, especially for new users
• Easier updates – one app to update instead of multiple
Other companies are moving in that direction too. For example, Muse Hub handles everything for MuseScore and their instruments/libraries in a single lightweight app. Even Dorico for iPad works without any additional service apps – you just sign in with your Steinberg ID directly in the app, and you’re good to go.
Just wanted to share this as a friendly suggestion – I love working with Dorico and Steinberg tools, and I think a bit of consolidation here could go a long way toward making the overall user experience even smoother.
Thanks for reading, and I’d be curious to hear what others think!
Best regards,
