Vari-Audio question For Vocal Harmonies

Track 2 in Cubase 15 Pro is my lead vocal. I duplicate that vocal track to go to track 3. I double click track 3 and Vari-Audio is available. I Control A on the screen and bring down the 2nd vocal a third lower. On playback my lead vocal on track 2 has also moved down a third. Why?

Because most likely you didn’t make the events on the duplicate tracks Real Copies.

Now, they are shared copies by default, and when you change one, all the others follow the change.

how do I make it a real copy? tia

Oh, right. You Ctrl-Right Click on the event (or events if you have made a multi-selection), and then it’s somewhere there in the pop-up menu. “Convert to Real Copy”

Edit: Better double check that you have your original vocal intact first, and then convert the rest to real copies.

Option 1: Create a Real Copy

  1. In Cubase, select the original vocal clip.

  2. Go to Edit → Functions → Convert To Real Copy.

  3. This creates a separate audio file for the copy, so edits in VariAudio won’t affect the original I found it thanks guy.

It still does not work to make a real copy from the functions is grayed out I’m at a dead end here

Don’t know what’s going wrong with your copy. But maybe you can use TrackVersions as a workaround.

Duplicate your track and in the duplicated track make a new track version and modify that one. That should keep the original version.

“Bounce selection” is your friend here. Select the copied event and bounce to create a new file. I have it mapped to CTRL+B (Windows) and use it all the time.

By default Cubase would ask you if you want to create a new version when editing with VariAudio. Maybe you have switched this off at some point.
Go to Preferences → Editing → Audio and then here to switch it back on.

I will definitely do that this morning as a possible solution

I will definitely take a look at that Johnny thanks for your suggestion

ok the bounce selection with new version worked. Now in the new version I want to address 4 bars of the music to only have a pitch changed down a third and leave every think else in unison there after. What too do I use?

Use the scissor tool to make cuts at the beginning/end of those four bars. Select this new four bar event and transpose it using the information bar near the top of the project window. This is assuming a static transposition works in your case (-3 for minor third; -4 for major third). If it’s not static, then bounce that new four bar event and use VariAudio to transpose each note to taste.

thank you I googled it and figured it out…thanks for all your help
