Hello,
I’m currently working on creating vocal harmonies using duplicated vocal tracks in Cubase.
My workflow is the following:
-
I duplicate the vocal track
-
Open the duplicated track in VariAudio
-
Select the song key / scale
-
Move notes manually to create thirds or fifths
The problem is that VariAudio does not respect the selected scale. Even with the correct key selected, it allows me to move notes freely to any chromatic pitch, instead of snapping or restricting them to the notes of the chosen scale.
This is especially confusing in some projects but not all of them. For example, in my current project in G# Major, VariAudio allows me to move notes to A natural, which should not belong to that scale.
I also notice similar behavior in MIDI: the editor allows me to use notes that clearly do not fit the selected scale, even though “Snap Notes to Scale” in the editor is enabled.
I have already checked and confirmed:
-
The correct key and scale are selected
-
“Snap Notes to Scale” is enabled in the editor
-
Pitch Snap is set to Absolute
What confuses me the most is that this only happens in some projects, while in others the scale behavior feels more consistent.
Is this expected behavior (scale acting only as a visual guide), or could this be a project-specific setting, bug, or limitation when working with enharmonic keys like G# Major?
Cubase version: 15
OS: Windows
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated, as this makes creating harmonies much harder and error-prone in certain projects.
Thanks in advance!
