My machine has sent you many crash dumps today because it’s quite easy to crash Dorico when using Cantai on a medium sized project.

Simply put if Cantai is still rendering something and I also edit the Dorico file “in certain ways” then it will crash. For your additional information (which I assume the crash dumps don’t tell you) if all the Cantai visible windows disappear then it means Dorico will crash. Actually I can continue making edits in Dorico but the moment I press "control S to save "Dorico will hang and I’ll have to kill it in task manager.
“In certain ways” includes cleaning up the dynamics - e.g. removing contradictory dynamics and getting all the crescendos into decrescendos to line up. Anything that causes a refresh-cache in Cantai might cause trouble.
For those with similar problems the workarounds are:
- Keep an eye on task manager and wait for peace
- Temporarily turn off Cantai until you really need the words audible.
I am sending you this message not because I am upset or unhappy about the situation but because I want to help you improve the software. Using Cantai directly in composing is an amazing experience and a huge privilege - the only composers who have ever enjoyed similar privileges were those who worked for large cathedral institutions etc and could get stuff sung whenever they needed it. I’ve attached a draft of what I’m working on - I’m sure you can soon crash it by moving dynamics about.

It only crashes if work is bigger than a certain size. I don’t know what that limit is -some of my small arias do not crash - some of the bigger arias crash very quickly.
As may crash about every 2 minutes its sending crash dumps that often as I restart Dorico. In a big aria I’m able to make about three edits per session before it crashes. Please don’t discard the crash dumps because you’ll think they’re being sent from some automated “BOT” - they are not; they are real!
