VCA Faders with Input Channels Sync Problem

Hey all. I’ve created a recording/tracking template in which I assign a VCA fader to a stereo input, coming from my analog mixer’s master bus for printing a mix and a VCA fader to mono input for recording a vocalist. (My mixer also functions as a DAW control surface). I usually have the inputs muted when I first open the template. If I try to unmute the input using the assigned VCA fader’s mute button, nothing happens but when I unmute the input fader and then unmute the assigned VCA, the mute then follows.

I know that it’s a fairly minor, though annoying issue. Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a fix? I’m using Cubase 14.0.32 on a Mac Studio running Sequoia.

At least in Nuendo I think “mute” only turns off automation on the VCA track itself, just like turning “read” off, instead of actually muting the tracks it is controlling. In other words “mute” does not work the way “solo” does, which is poor design and has never been fixed.

Will it ever be fixed?
The royal we is not optimistic at all.

PS: Why would you use a VCA to control inputs instead of just using the input channels themselves?
