Verse number alignment

In the last month or so, I seem to recall reading or seeing in a video that verse numbers could now be left aligned. After an hour of searching the help system, google and the myriad settings options I am humbling myself to post a question:
Is this possible? If so how?

The first syllable itself is now able to be left aligned, but there’s no changes to the behavior of numbers.

Could one add a note before the first syllable, add stanza numbers as left aligned lyrics and then remove the note?
