In the setup and layout within Dorico it shows the a hairpin aligned on the center of a “p”. Elaine Gould’s “bible of notation” shows the same. However, Dorico is defaulting to align my hairpins with the top of the “p” (or “mp” etc). It does it consistently so I thought perhaps it was preferred over what I am used to. However, I think not. The hairpin should align as in the 2nd picture. Since my piece is large, I do not want to do this individually . Is there a way to do this globally and then set it so future projects align the hairpin on the dynamics as per the 2nd picture?

In Write mode, select the dynamics and hairpins and then right-click and select Dynamics > Group Dynamics.

Thank you but that is not the problem. Throughout all my composistions the hairpin lines up with the top of the pp (first picture) and I want it to line up with the middle of the pp (second picture).
What font are you using for your music font?
Can you upload a small project which demonstrates the issue?
Please have a look at Engraving Options – Dynamics – Vertical Position. The distance for immediate dynamics must be exactly 1/2 space greater than the distance for gradual dynamics. This is the default setting.

That did it! and it did it throughout the whole piece! Thank you so much! I guess I need to set that as default for the whole program.
Thank you. It looks like the issue BassoContinuo noted above.
