Vertical and Horizontal "Pages" in Same Project

I’m working on a project that involves multiple “flows” (ie, songs) in one project. This will be exported to a pdf file and used by musicians on iPads during concerts. Basically it’s all the music for the concert - 16 songs or so. Some of the flows/songs work best in vertical orientation, some work best in landscape. The musicians will just rotate the tablet on their stands / holders. I can’t figure out a way to have different page orientations in the same exportable grouping. Any suggestions?

I’m not sure that is possible, as each layout can only have one page size and orientation.

Hi @Joseph_Schumann, I tried, and found a workflow that makes this somehow possible.

You need basically to duplicate the layout/s and have a Portrait version of and a Landscape version of it. When you export the PDFs you then select only the desired flows from both the layouts. You can then combine them with Preview on MacOS or in any basic PDF editor.

Result PDF demonstration with Portrait and Landscape pages combined:

I make now a video to show the workflow… Stay tuned.

edit:

and here comes the workflow video (5 minutes watch time):

Add-ons:

  • the First Page template editing was a mistake, though, as it will not be consistent with the different layout names, rename instead the layout names (deleting the added Portrait and Landscape, and leave the layout name token…), or just edit the layout names at the very end directly in the layout (yes, with an override  )
  • you may want to show the page numbers in headers from Layout Options:
