Creating a vertical line with a centred text annotation that needs to be at the outside of the line (in this case, to its right) results in the annotation sitting too low, as shown here:
The ‘offset’ property controls how far the ‘h’ is from the line, while the ‘start/end gap’ will work only if ‘placement’ is set to ‘start’ or ‘end’.
I tried to edit the annotation so that it would have a different alignment (right here it is shown as ‘baseline’) but there appears to be no real change in there affecting this specific position.
Short of setting the Placement to Start and adjusting the Start/end gap to the needed value (which would only work if there is only a single instance of this line in the whole piece), is there any other way to control this?
Ciao @MicheleGalvagno, if you have several different lines of these kind, with different lengths and different text (or even for only one of them, if you need more local control), one way is to create the text in the properties panel, where you can customise quickly what you need for each line individually:
The said it seems that, in your example, using a line annotation, setting the text as Always horizontal, Dorico rotates the letter without taking into consideration the height of the letter:
Sorry for being a pain, but this is a global thing.
It may work for a specific project where all lines require italic (or the opposite), but it will break for projects where the other option is required.
Perhaps the solution would be to have access to the style in the properties panel, or an italic switch like we have for lyrics.
It’s a bit of a hack, but I get around this by modifying the font and creating ligatures: any time a forward slash precedes a letter, it generates the italic of that letter. So if I want italics, it’s /l/i/k/e /t/h/i/s.
