Very Strange Audio Problem in Cubase 13.0.21

Windows 11, RME Multiface, Prophet 6 Module and Kurzweil PC3K8
I have tested all cables, tested outputs on both synths, tested Studio/Audio Setup in new project.
I have been working on a Project with only 9 tracks. When I tried to record from my Prophet 6 or Kurzweil going directly into the RME Multiface on that project, I see MIDI, I see AUDIO, but the audio track only makes an electronic click. Using exactly the same setup in a new Project with only a MIDI track and an AUDIO track, everything works perfectly.
How could that be? And what can I do about it?. In Sonar, if something strange happened I had to copy all the tracks into a new project. I thought Cubase would be better than that and it has until I loaded in the latest 13.0.21 version.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

It looks like the project becomes corrupted somehow.

I would try to:

  • Make a Back up and try from this project. Or…
  • Create Empty project and File > Import Tracks from Project.

I actually had somethin similar to this last night - I use a Fractal Axe FX3 as my audio interface. Opened a project and started playing. At some point I lost all audio. After a lot of investigating, all my input and output busses were unmapped and CB13 (latest version, Windows 11) wouldn’t recognise anything other than generic low latency driver. Nothing wrong with the connection because I could still access the Axe through Axe edit. Restarting the project, it was back but I had to redo all my busses.

This is similar to another problem I’ve noticed happening occasionally - sometimes when I open a project, all mappings are mixed up (stereo in 1 is 5&2 instead of 1&2, things like that).

I hadn’t updated to the .21 version yet on Windows 10 and it looks like this may be a good reason to avoid it for now. Just in case.

Thanks, Martin. I used your second idea: " * Create Empty project and File > Import Tracks from Project."
That worked. I also did a chat with support and they recommended the same, saying that there are so many variables that it would take a long time to figure out WHY. I’d like to know, but I need to get on with the work.
The fact that this ONLY happened with the 13.0.21 update after years of using Cubase is probably indicative of problems with the update, also considering how many problems people have reported after updating. An additional bunch that I’ve noticed are when I try and save and use my own Keyboard Shortcuts.

I’m going to revert to the earlier version, Roland. See my latest answer to Martin.

Whoa! Forgive me for jumping the gun. I was so happy to see that recording worked when I imported the old project files to the new one that I just listened briefly and went on to something else.
When I took time to listen back, I thought there was something wrong with my headphones since only the right side was audible.
The tracks are in stereo but the import set the Outputs to “Stereo-Right”. Easy to change.
However, the tracks that were time-warped are now completely out of sync with each other. Any ideas about how to fix that greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Could you verify, if you have the relevant files in the Edits folder, please?

Thanks, Martin. In the original project, I assume?

Hi,

I mean in the new one.

Sorry, Martin. Away from the studio. I guess I don’t know how to find the Project /Edit Folder. Manual not much help for that.
But while digging around, I reset the audio to 48/24. That lined things up and I was able to record.
Of course I can record everything and then insert Lurssen into the mix, but I’ve never encountered this problem before I updated to 13.0.21.
HOWEVER, when I re-inserted my Lurssen Mastering Console in the Stereo Mix, I was not able to record.
Any ideas. Thanks.

Hi,

It’s at the same level as the Audio folder.

Thanks. The problem seems related to the IK Lurssen Mastering Console. I’ve contacted IK.

Outside agitators. We must build a wall around Cubase. :stuck_out_tongue:

Of course, now I’ll test the other plugins I use in mastering…
